BIMcon SUMMIT 2026 — International openBIM Conference
BIMcon is the annual conference organised by buildingSMART Romania, dedicated to AEC professionals who adopt and promote BIM and openBIM standards.
Marking ten years since the founding of the BIMTECH association, we are putting together a masterclass dedicated to IFC, IDS and open standards, bringing together some of the most prominent experts worldwide — both the legacy developers of IFC and the voices behind the most recent technological and standardisation advances.
All of it in a deliberately intimate format, addressed first of all to the members, partners and supporters who have been with us throughout this decade.
We would be delighted to welcome you to a BIMTECH event, to celebrate together with an international community the achievements and the optimism gathered over our first decade!
Let's build the digital future – together!

Two days, six components
The detailed hour-by-hour programme is below, in the live agenda.
IFC & IDS masterclass
Sessions led by global experts — the legacy developers of IFC and the voices behind the most recent standardisation advances.
CATUC & digital permitting
Romania’s new Territorial Planning, Urbanism and Construction Code, and what the national one-stop-shop means in practice for designers and authorities.
Technical workshops
Hands-on sessions on the open standards, working directly on real project models and workflows.
Solutions exhibition
BIM software and hardware in the Les Colonnades foyer — demos and direct conversations with vendors.
Networking & anniversary
The ten-year BIMTECH moment, together with the international community and the association’s members.
Thematic tracks
The masterclass is built around the buildingSMART open standards and around Romania’s new legal framework for digital permitting. Individual workshop titles and formats will be announced with the detailed programme.
Digital permitting becomes law
Romania’s Territorial Planning, Urbanism and Construction Code entered into force on 25 August 2026, replacing Law 350/2001, Law 50/1991 and a substantial part of Law 10/1995. Among its stated objectives: simplifying and digitalising the approval, endorsement and permitting procedures.
Digitalisation runs through the national platform for urban and territorial planning and construction permitting, made up of the national urbanism geoportal and the national one-stop-shop for construction permits. The Code also provides for urban plans to be transposed into geographic information systems (GIS).
This is where the open standards come in: a platform receiving digital submissions needs structured, checkable data — not scanned drawings. It is precisely the ground we work on — IFC for the model, IDS for information requirements that can be verified automatically.

days
years
Schema and model structure
How the IFC schema is built, what changed in IFC 4 and 4.3, and how that shows up in exports from modelling applications.
Checkable information requirements
Turning information requirements into rules that can be verified automatically against the model, instead of by hand in coordination meetings.
Coordination and issue management
Federating discipline models and moving issues between teams, independently of the application in use.
Checking the deliverables
Tools for validating models and IFC exports — what a standard-compliant deliverable actually looks like.

- The Les Colonnades foyer — a Belle Époque symbol, with marble columns over 110 years old, ideal for networking and the BIM solutions exhibition
- Meeting rooms for workshops and parallel sessions
- Central location — 1–3 Episcopiei Street, next to Revolution Square and Calea Victoriei
- A building with over a century of history, recently renovated
