About buildingSMART Romania
The national chapter of buildingSMART International in Romania. We promote the adoption of the openBIM standards — IFC, BCF and ISO 19650 — in the architecture, engineering and construction sector, connecting professionals and companies through education, certification and advocacy.

buildingSMART Romania, through the BIMTECH Association, is the official national chapter, established to localise and promote the buildingSMART International open standards in Romania. We work with public administration, academia and industry to embed digital workflows into public procurement, education and professional practice.
BIM
The buildingSMART Romania Chapter
In 2022, Romania joined buildingSMART International, becoming the first Chapter in the Balkan region and the 27th country worldwide — through the BIMTECH Association, founded in 2016. Romania is thus active in the buildingSMART International working groups, is involved in the bSI standardisation committee, has a say in electing the governing bodies and technical committees, and since 2023 is also part of the European openBIM Forum.
What is buildingSMART International
The most prestigious standardisation and technology organisation in construction — the creators and developers of the IFC standard and file format, which enables interoperability between BIM applications and is the backbone of collaboration between a project's stakeholders. bSI brings together the world's most recognised BIM experts under the openBIM umbrella and is present as Chapters in over 25 countries, with members such as Autodesk, Arup, Nemetschek, Oracle, Schneider Electric, Siemens and Trimble.
openBIM & IFC
openBIM is a multidisciplinary concept for creating and managing a construction's information model, based on open, software-vendor-independent standards such as IFC, BCF, COBie, CityGML or gbXML. The IFC format is an ISO standard (16739): an open-source file with which you can view and query three-dimensional building models and learn about the materials, products and properties of each element.
