openBIM Awards 2026
The BIMTECH – buildingSMART Romania awards for projects that apply the open standards, from design and construction through to handover and operation.
Projects that prove openBIM in practice
The openBIM Awards recognise and promote projects that apply openBIM standards and principles across the construction industry, from design and construction through to handover, operation and maintenance. Winners are announced on 22 October 2026, at the BIMcon SUMMIT Gala at the InterContinental Athénée Palace.
I am Ștefan Constantinescu, an architect, and it is my pleasure to invite you to take part in a new edition of the openBIM Awards, organised by BIMTECH – buildingSMART Romania.
Since the founding of the BIMTECH association, and through our membership of buildingSMART International, we have set out to promote collaboration, interoperability and open information exchange in the construction industry, and to bring forward projects and teams that demonstrate, through concrete examples, the value of openBIM principles and can inspire the whole community with good practice and relevant solutions.
On behalf of the whole team, thank you for your interest, and good luck!

We recommend a diagram or process map showing the applications used by each party, the IT infrastructure, the project phases, the information exchanges and the relevant BIM uses. Examples are in Annex C of the rules.
IFC models
Submit IFC models and/or other openBIM technical files that support the information presented. Screenshots and screen recordings of the workflows and model content are encouraged.
Optionally, files can be uploaded to a web viewing platform of the participant’s choice that meets the following requirements:
- ◆Upload and viewing directly in the browser for IFC and other formats: IDS, BCF, point clouds, PDF, DXF, XML, etc.
- ◆Querying the data attached to model elements
- ◆A public link through which the model can be viewed online without downloading
- ◆An encrypted connection for uploads and a profile protected by username and password
If you have no preferred platform, you will be given access to the BIMTECH G-suite platform once your general information is submitted.
BIM use cases
Document the BIM use cases implemented on the project and the results they delivered: producing documentation, discipline coordination, quantity take-off, model visualisation, clash detection and management, and other relevant processes.
Examples of BIM use cases for the different lifecycle stages:
Excessive, irrelevant or poorly explained information can make assessment harder. We recommend evidence that is concise, relevant and structured so that the essentials are easy to find.
